What sets the Emmett apart is its patent-pending folding design. Unlike traditional folding chairs that sag and pinch, the Emmett features a new folding mechanism that creates a remarkably comfortable and taut seat. With just one motion, the chair can be unfolded until the arms lock, providing a seating experience that rivals stationary chairs.

Despite its exceptional comfort, the Emmett remains highly portable. The chair is made with a lightweight aerospace-grade aluminum frame and custom TrueFlexTM outdoor fabric, making it easy to carry and transport. The Emmett's dimensions further enhance its portability. When folded, it measures a compact 229mm(w) x 203mm(d) x 914mm(h). Once unfolded and ready to sit, it expands to a comfortable 610mm(w) x 508mm(d) x 914mm(h) seating area.

True Places paid attention to every detail in the design and production of the Emmett. The chair is made using aluminum 6000 series, TrueFlexTM fabric (polyester, nylon), glass-filled nylon components, and recycled polyester for the carrying bag. These materials ensure durability, comfort, and sustainability.

The development of the Emmett was not without its challenges. True Places had to overcome the inherent tension between comfort and portability in outdoor furniture design. They successfully created a chair that offers a comfortable seat while still folding compactly. Additionally, they focused on producing a portable chair that maintains high-quality standards, avoiding the cost-cutting measures seen in many other portable chairs.

The Emmett project began in August 2019 in Philadelphia and New York City and was completed in July 2021 in Shanghai. Throughout the design process, True Places conducted extensive qualitative and quantitative research, involving hundreds of consumers. This research informed the development of the Emmett, addressing the dissatisfaction with current outdoor portable chair options and meeting the need for well-designed comfort in the modern outdoors.

The Emmett has garnered recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Camping Gear and Outdoor Equipment Design category in 2022.
